For better implementation of the various health programmes, Thoothukudi revenue District has been bifurcated in to two Health Unit Districts viz.
1. Thoothukudi. 2. Kovilpatti
For each HUD, there is full fledged office with supportive Staffs and with Second Level Officers to assistant Concerned Deputy Director of Health Services.

Cash assistance would the given to Deliveries under two schemes
- Janani Suraksa Yogana (JSY)
- Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme (MRMBS)

For institutional delivery Rs.700/- would be given. For Home Delivery Rs.500/- would be given for mothers who are the living in Rural area.
For the mothers living in Urban areas Rs.500/- would be given to get the benefit the mother
- Completed the age of 19years
- Below Poverty Line for general - For SC/ST no income limit
- The benefit would the given up to two live birth
MRMBS
To improve the nutritional status of both mother and child and to compensate the wage loss during antenatal and post natal period, the benefit would be given to the pregnant mother after 7th month of pregnancy in installments, Rs.12000/ .
